Join us in the bookshop for an enchanting evening with local bestselling fiction author Ellen Alpsten, author of Tsarina and The Tsarina’s Daughter.

Oozing with elegance and atmosphere, Alpsten’s alluring debut novel Tsarina reimagines the rags-to-riches journey of Catherine I of Russia, from lowly birth and work in servitude to becoming the second wife of Peter the Great, Russia’s great moderniser. Her lauded second novel The Tsarina’s Daughter follows Catherine’s daughter Elizabeth, whose idyllic world is upended when Russia is torn by the struggle for succession; as times change like quicksand and Elizabeth is left penniless and powerless, she must decide whether she is willing to take up her role as Russia’s ruler, and what she’s willing to do for her country.

After discussing her experiences researching and writing to create her rich, sweeping novels, there will be the opportunity for a Q&A where you can ask all of your burning questions. Discussions will be followed by a chance for you to buy the books and get them signed while enjoying refreshments in true Russian style!
