SUMMARY:'Maremma Mia' author event with Nicholas Hopton
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an author event with Nicholas Hopton\, to celebrate his new book ‘Maremma Mia’. Leave the chills of English January for an evening\, and treat yourself instead to a discussion of the delights and demands of life in the beautiful Tuscan countryside. There will also be a Q&A and a chance to get a signed copy of the book. \nTickets are £5 – get yours here. Ticket price is redeemable against purchase of the book on the night. \nAbout the book:\nPart memoir\, part history\, Maremma Mia is a spellbinding love letter to Italy. At the centre of this book is the chronicle of the Hopton family’s adventure as they transform an old farmhouse\, “I Cipressi”\, in the rural Maremma region of Tuscany into their home. The narrative unfolds across the changing seasons\, capturing the unique beauty and unpredictability of their new lives in Tuscany. Through these experiences\, Hopton reveals both the joys and challenges of rural life\, painting a detailed picture of the local customs and traditions. \nAbout the author:\nNicholas Hopton studied Italian at Cambridge University. His dissertation Sicilianità – on Twentieth Century Sicilian literature – won the Peskett Modern Languages prize. He also studied at the British Institute of Florence and La Sapienza University in Rome. His first published novel was In Pieces\, which The New York Post described as ‘A wry\, intelligent story of London life in the nineties’. He served as a diplomat for 35 years\, including at the British Embassy in Italy and as UK Ambassador to Libya\, Iran\, Qatar and Yemen. He now lives in Twickenham and spends as much time as possible with his wife and five children at their house in Tuscany.
