SUMMARY:'Maremma Mia' author event with Nicholas Hopton
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an author event with Nicholas Hopton\, to celebrate his new book ‘Maremma Mia’. Leave the chills of English January for an evening\, and treat yourself instead to a discussion of the delights and demands of life in the beautiful Tuscan countryside. There will also be a Q&A and a chance to get a signed copy of the book. \nTickets are £5 – get yours here. Ticket price is redeemable against purchase of the book on the night. \nAbout the book:\nPart memoir\, part history\, Maremma Mia is a spellbinding love letter to Italy. At the centre of this book is the chronicle of the Hopton family’s adventure as they transform an old farmhouse\, “I Cipressi”\, in the rural Maremma region of Tuscany into their home. The narrative unfolds across the changing seasons\, capturing the unique beauty and unpredictability of their new lives in Tuscany. Through these experiences\, Hopton reveals both the joys and challenges of rural life\, painting a detailed picture of the local customs and traditions. \nAbout the author:\nNicholas Hopton studied Italian at Cambridge University. His dissertation Sicilianità – on Twentieth Century Sicilian literature – won the Peskett Modern Languages prize. He also studied at the British Institute of Florence and La Sapienza University in Rome. His first published novel was In Pieces\, which The New York Post described as ‘A wry\, intelligent story of London life in the nineties’. He served as a diplomat for 35 years\, including at the British Embassy in Italy and as UK Ambassador to Libya\, Iran\, Qatar and Yemen. He now lives in Twickenham and spends as much time as possible with his wife and five children at their house in Tuscany.

SUMMARY:An evening with Anthony Gardner\, author of 'All God's Creatures'
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an evening with Anthony Gardner\, who will talk about his new book ‘All God’s Creatures’. Perfect for fans of Evelyn Waugh and Tom Sharpe\, the book is a gentle\, satirical novel about the madness of cancel culture. There will also be a Q&A and a chance to get a signed copy of the book. \nTickets are £5 – get yours here. Ticket price is redeemable against purchase of the book on the night. \nAbout the book:\nWhen mild-mannered editor Ben Fairweather loses his job after being branded a “petphobic bigot” by a fanatical religious movement that believes animals are closer to God than humans\, he stumbles into a new life as a nightclub pianist. But soon he is drawn into a world of spies\, art forgery\, sinister oligarchs\, AI and murder. \nAll God’s Creatures is Anthony Gardner’s ingenious caper: part madcap farce\, part sharp-eyed satire in the tradition of Evelyn Waugh and Tom Sharpe\, and an unsettling mirror of our own age of chaos. \nAbout the author:\nAuthor\, journalist\, and former editor of the Royal Society of Literature Review\, Anthony Gardner has written for The Sunday Times Magazine\, Irish Times\, and The Economist. He is the author of two previous novels (The Rivers of Heaven\, Fox) and two collections of poetry\, one of which was longlisted for the Rathbones Folio Prize.
